In this article, I’ll explain the reasons why drinking water can help you get better results while using EFT – Emotional Freedom Techniques.

I strongly encourage my clients to have water handy before, during and after each EFT session and take frequent sips. The main reason is because EFT works with the body's electromagnetic energy, and water is an electrolyte that conducts electricity, ensuring that energy flows along the meridians. In traditional Chinese medicine, meridians are strings connecting acupuncture points, which are considered as passageways through which energy flows throughout the body. As we know, acupuncture treatments aim to improve the flow of energy through the meridian network using needles, whereas in EFT we are using our fingertips to gently tap and stimulate the same acupoints.

This brings us to the secondo reason. EFT is known to release emotional and cognitive toxins stored in the body. Drinking water can help flush out these toxins and support the body's natural detoxification processes.

Taking a moment to drink water can serve as a grounding activity, helping you stay connected to your body, present and in the moment.

Danger or stress activates your sympathetic nervous system, to help you get out of the danger, even if it’s not a life-threatening situation, which can cause several things to happen in your body. It shifts resources toward body systems required for fight or flight, such as blood circulation and your muscles. It shifts resources away from nonessential systems like immunity and digestion. This is the reason why your mouth goes dry when you are under stress. Drinking water can have a calming effect on the nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress by sending the message to the body that’s been taken care of, even though it’s going through a stressful situation.
